The Simple Sybaritic Touch In Max Mara Ss18

“In their Spring-Summer 2018 collection that was shown on day two of Milan Fashion Week, Max Mara shares the simplicity of a Baudelairean style; how its landscape is a living breathing entity, its mood swings restless, fleeting, transient, and often unpredictable.”

Max Mara is known for its camel coats, and the brand that is favoured by working women has been courting a younger, more casual market. And the theme, which in the show notes specifically referenced smart cosmopolites seeking out shady patios and hidden gardens for sun dappled working lunches and well-earned cocktails, seemed to drive the perfect balance between the two.

Lilac, white, black, and the requisite camel, as well as pretty spriggy floral prints in shades of purple and pink, grey pinstripes, and a Max Mara monogram that matched the carpet on the catwalk were repeated in the house’s colours of the season.

Many classic ideas were presented with a modern twist; trouser suits became boiler suits, trench coats became trench skirts, and culottes appeared with belts of shredded fabric worn around the waist which hung like a skirt.

The coat, as the brand’s ultimate DNA, was even showcased in floral printed terry towelling worn with a matching dress and bag to great effect. Bum bags too received a reinvention of sorts, being refashioned into long oblong leather pouches that perched on the models’ behinds.

There were, of course, still plenty of items to keep the core Max Mara customer happy. This includes flattering pencil skirts, chic knitwear, and their timeless outerwear.

The show then closed with our favourite supermodel of the moment, Bella Hadid, who also happens to be the current face of Max Mara.
